PCmover File-based method (PCmover transfer file – USB Drive)

SUMMARY

I want to transfer my applications, users, files and settings from my old computer (old Windows install) to my New PC (or new Windows Install-even on the same PC). I don’t want to use my network or wireless router to transfer, and I don’t own a Laplink USB cable.

SOLUTION

Using the File-Based Method built into PCmover we can put all of your data onto a single file. All you need is a place to store the file that’s large enough for what you want to move; USB stick, SD card, External Hard Drive or Network Attached Storage.

Next we need to create the file:

1. Open PCmover
2. On the right hand side, click advanced options and “File-based” on the left

3. Click Browse and navigate to the location where you want to store the file and give it a name

4. PCmover will analyze your old PC to determine what’s on it

5. At this point you can Customize the transfer or Click next to create the transfer file and PCmover will attempt to move everything

Here’s how to create the file in under 50 seconds:

6. Now that you’ve made the file and copied it onto your portable drive, go plug it into the new pc.

7. Open PCmover, Open advanced options and click This is the New PC

8. Click on the PCmover Transfer file you made and start the transfer!

9. Follow the prompts once the transfer is done and be sure to restart your PC for changes to take effect.
